MASKS

This imagery formed an intrinsic, historic part of the Embera and Wounaan shaman's rituals. Today these traditional ceremonial masks are decorative pieces handmade by indigenous Indian women from the 'chunga' (black palm tree). Wild animals or imaginary beings, Embera artists are inspired by their environment and by their beliefs, through which they bring to life a craftsmanship unique in the world. One off creation
